The Rockland County Department of Health is offering vaccinations to anyone who needs them after it was revealed that a person with measles was in New Square.
The department confirmed the case earlier this week. It is now offering the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine.
"We are hoping that everybody can take advantage of the fact that we have the MMR vaccine available in the county at the Health Department and at all pediatrician and doctors' offices," says Dr. Maria Mosquera, with the Rockland Department of Health.
But at a clinic Friday that ran from 9 a.m. through 11 a.m., only one person came by. The county is considering offering another clinic soon.
"Anybody that has not been vaccinated should be vaccinated," says Mosquera.
Measles symptoms emerge like a common cold, following by a rash. People with the virus are highly contagious.
Anyone who needs to be vaccinated is urged to contact their doctor or the county to set up an appointment, especially if they have symptoms.
Symptoms usually appear 10 to 12 days after exposure.
