Ramapo and Clarkstown both raised the Israeli flag outside their townhalls on Thursday.
During the flag raising ceremonies, local residents shared stories of their loved ones in the country including those serving as part of the Israel Defense Forces. Officials also showed their support for those fighting.
"We can't go over there and fight. But we can show that we're supporting the people there,” said Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht.
"We need to stand with Israel. Stand in support of our staunchest ally in the middle east,” said Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann. “And there's a lot of Clarkstown and Rockland connections and that's why it was important to do this."
Ramapo tells News 12 there will have an increased police presence throughout the town. Clarkstown police will also be at synagogues and other Jewish establishments. These measures happening after alleged calls by Hamas for Friday to be a day of action.
The Jewish Security Alliance states there are no known credible threats currently to the Jewish community in New York and New Jersey. The organization is advising institutions to remain open while also encouraging security precautions.
