The Rockland County Sheriff's Office is adding more patrols and conducting a joint road check this holiday weekend in an effort to tackle drunken driving.
Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco made the announcement this morning at a news conference in New City.
Sen. David Carlucci has also introduced legislation to take dangerous drivers off the road for good. The legislation would allow for licenses to be permanently revoked if a driver gets three DWI convictions.
"Statistics show that if someone has one DWI conviction, there's a 20 percent chance they're going to re-offend, so we want to take that risk out of the equation," he says. 'We want to make our roads safe to make sure when our families are driving on these roads, when pedestrians are walking they're safe."
Carlucci has sponsored the legislation in the Senate and is pushing it forward to get it signed into law.
