Rockland County is abuzz with anticipation for the upcoming weekend, with the focal point being the 60th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Pearl River.

As the second largest St. Patrick's Parade in New York state, the Rockland County tradition gives an economic boost to businesses in Pearl River and the surrounding communities every year.

Orangetown Town Supervisor Teresa Kenny shares that the parade introduces Pearl River to thousands of people, many of whom have even made calls after the holiday to buy a home in the hamlet. On a day with great weather, up to 30,000 people attend the annual event, turning to local businesses to celebrate the Irish holiday in multiple ways.

Gift shops like the Danu Gallery and pubs like Murty's Publick House say it's one of the busiest, if not the busiest, day of the year. "A lot of foot traffic on that day. People will shop at the last minute for their sweaters and blankets and stuff that they can celebrate the parade. So it's a busy, busy day for everybody," says Karen Curran, owner of The Danu Gallery.

"Everybody comes out that day, and it's a great family day. A great day for the pub. A great day for business. Just a great day for Pearl River," adds Kevin Murtagh, owner of Murty's Publick House.

If you're interested in coming out to celebrate and support many of these businesses, the Rockland County St. Patrick's Day Parade is happening this Sunday. The annual tradition kicks off at 1:30 p.m. in the Pfizer parking lot.
