Rockland County officials have unveiled a new initiative aimed at reducing the number of opioid overdoses in the area: The "Leave-Behind Narcan Project."
The program equips first responders with free Narcan kits to leave with anyone present at an emergency scene.
The kits contain Narcan nasal spray, instructions on how to administer the medication, a reference card listing resources for treatment and support, a QR code for obtaining additional Narcan at no cost, and a booklet on overdose prevention.
Rockland County experienced a surge in opioid overdoses last year, with over 240 reported cases, including 40 fatalities.
