Rockland County said it has issued fines after complaints of mountains of trash being left around -- in some cases for weeks -- in a Spring Valley neighborhood.
News 12 first reported on the complaints from residents about the overflow of garbage back in March.
The issue sparked the Rockland County Office of Buildings and Codes to investigate.
County inspectors found over 60 code violations, which led the county to issue fines for over 30 properties.
"It's sounds great to hear the county is doing this so that the place where we live can be cleaner," said resident Ramon Ordonez.
Rockland County Office of Buildings and Codes Director Ed Markunas said Friday he sent inspectors out on a follow-up.
"And surprisingly they came back, said most of those properties have been cleaned up," Markunas said and noted this won't be last time inspectors sweep through the area. "And we're going to continue to monitor the entire Village of Spring Valley."
If a resident in Spring Valley wants to submit a complaint, the OBC asks that they do so by calling 845-364-3700 or emailing BuildingsAndCodes@co.rockland.ny.us
