New moms can get back to work faster thanks to one Rockland business.
Jawonio, Inc. has become the first business in Rockland to be recognized by County Health Department's Breastfeeding Promotion and Support Program as a breastfeeding friendly worksite.
They have created a room that is a safe, sanitary and relaxing space for new mothers to pump.
Health officials say breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months of life.
Thanks to a state grant, about 80 working moms will have access to the room. "This is just an amazing opportunity for all moms and their babies to have a room like this. I think it's just wonderful to support mothers who are working," says Rubina Vij, of Congers.
Rockland County hopes the room will encourage more businesses to create a safe space for mothers to pump.
Jawonio, Inc.  provides services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and special needs.
