A suspected gas station robber was rescued by first responders Sunday after he jumped into a river in Sloatsburg, according to police.
Police say the robbery took place around 7 p.m. yesterday at the Sunoco gas station at the Ramapo rest area on I-87. The attendant says the suspect demanded money and indicated that he was armed.
Police say the suspect, Richard Morgan, 49, tried to flee the scene by jumping into the Ramapo River.
Cops found Morgan huddled on a rock in the river. Due to rapid water flow, the New York State Police special operations response team and air boat were needed to retrieve the man. Morgan was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was treated for hypothermia.
Officials say he was arraigned in his hospital bed and charged with felony robbery.
