DPW crews in Rockland County are sending out brine trucks Thursday evening to pretreat the roads in preparation for Friday’s snow.   

Salt trucks and plows will begin to take care of the roads when needed in the morning.  

The Rockland County Highway Department is responsible for the major roadways. Town highway departments like Clarkstown focus on the streets in your neighborhood. 

Town of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann says they are ready to clear their 100 miles of sidewalks with five bombardiers. 

“These almost look like mini tanks, and they clear the sidewalks,” says Hoehmann.  

It takes hours to get the job done. In Clarkstown, it can take about four hours to spread the salt and another six to clean up the snow when it is done. 

Some municipalities, such as Clarkstown and Orangetown, are reporting low staffing levels due to COVID-19. However, they say those shortages will not affect their ability to keep roads clear during the storm.
