A partial building collapse in Mount Vernon has closed a roadway as city officials assess the damage and ensure public safety.

The building at 225 South 4th Avenue suffered a partial collapse early Wednesday morning, causing significant damage to the structure's side. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Heavy rain on Tuesday night may have contributed to the collapse, according to officials. As a result, South 4th Avenue is closed to pedestrians and vehicles between West 3rd and West 4th Streets.

City agencies are working together to determine the next course of action and evaluate the structural integrity of surrounding buildings. The road closure will remain in place until further notice.
