A tenant at a Yonkers building nearly blew up his apartment Monday in an effort to rid the residence of bugs, according to police.
Neighbor Abbina Magijj says she heard, then felt an explosion Monday afternoon at 8 Beaumont Circle. "We heard a loud noise and I went outside," says Magijj, who grabbed her baby and ran.
Investigators later confirmed that Magijj's neighbor set off three 4-ounce cans of roach bombs, but failed to properly follow the instructions. Windows were blown out of the unit and sheetrock fell to the ground.
No one was injured in the explosion, which rocked the entire building. Damage was contained to the man's unit.
The Department of Buildings plans to survey the scene. There's no word on whether the tenant will face any penalties or charges.
