Port Chester's village board elected a new police chief in the wake of a scandal involving their previous top cop.

Lt. Richard Conway, a 28-year veteran, was chosen as the new police chief in a vote of 4-3 by the village board. Conway is now responsible for overseeing 53 officers and says he is ready to take the department in a new direction.

Last July, former Chief Joseph Krzeminski was at the center of controversy after it was revealed that thousands of dollars in cash and cocaine went missing from an evidence room. Krzeminski was never linked to the incident, but he ended up with federal charges for allegedly threatening Cpt. John Telesca.

Conway says he would like to establish a police community council to put the officers in direct contact with the public.
