Residents at a condo complex in Fishkill say they are upset about apparent plans by their board to remove and kill about two dozen geese.
The group alleges that board members who oversee the Park Condominiums complex on Loudon Drive consider them a nuisance around their pond and are seeking a U.S. Fish and Wildlife permit to have the animals exterminated.
“They are going to gather them up, stick them in a truck and gas them with carbon dioxide,” says resident Joanne Dyroff. “It’s upsetting.”
Dyroff says she and other unit owners disagree with the plans, don’t mind the geese, and want non-lethal, humane removal methods to be used instead, if at all.
“They are my emotional support,” says Claire Walden, whose lived in the complex for 20 years. “I moved here because of this beautiful setting and now they want to take it away and kill them in such a horrific way. It’s just very disheartening.”

Residents spoke out about the alleged extermination plans at a recent Town of Fishkill board meeting. Town officials say they sympathize with resident concerns but add they have no jurisdiction over the permit process or plans.
News 12 reached out to U.S. Fish and Wildlife for information on the permit process and guidelines for approval but didn’t immediately receive a response.
