Bronx residents who live around 242nd Street and Broadway say progress on a local retail development has been lagging.
They say the issue stems from a former auto repair store that was converted into a parking garage for Manhattan College. Residents say Community Board 8 agreed to the change with the stipulation that the college would place a retail development in the area. They say the development has been built, but that no tenants have moved in.
Damian McShane, the president of Community Board 8, says he recently met with his counterpart at Manhattan College. He says the meeting was productive and that he's confident the college will follow through on its pledge to bring retailers to the area.
Community Board 8 members say Manhattan College has hired a leasing firm to negotiate with retailers to fill the space as soon as possible.
