The Yonkers community is coming together to raise money for the family of a deliveryman who was shot to death on the job.
Martin Antonio Perez was fatally shot Monday night making a delivery for the Emerald Diner. Perez was found dead in the 12th floor stairwell at one of Yonkers most troubled housing complexes on Hawthorne Avenue. Police believe Perez was set up to be the target of a robbery.
There is now a collection box at the Riverdale Deli Food Center to raise money for Perez?s family who want to send his body back to Santo Domingo. He once lived above the deli and the owner watched Perez grow up.
The reward for information leading to the arrest of someone in the murder has more than doubled to $11,000. The Emerald Diner put up $5,000 towards the reward. Police are hoping the money will prompt people to come forward.
Perez had only been working at the diner for two weeks to earn extra money to give his 6-month-old daughter a special Christmas.
Anyone with information about the murder is asked to contact the Yonkers Police Department at 914-377-7725.
