Many Westchester residents turned out to The Rising in Valhalla for of a Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony Friday.
The Rising is the county's permanent memorial at the Kensico Dam Plaza.
The sculpture is 80 feet tall and is surrounded by plaques bearing the names of 111 men and women from Westchester who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino delivered a speech, saying in part, "Remembering is just the start to building a better future."
Children of some of the victims also spoke in the ceremony.
"My dad, firefighter Michael J. Lyons, I was 1 when you were taken away from me," said Caitlyn Lyons. "I will never forget you, and I will never forget this day. I love and miss you."
