Montgomery police responded to a home on Homestead Avenue Thursday night where someone was reported in distress just before 6 p.m.
An unidentified person fired a shot inside the home and tactical units were called in for assistance.
The person surrendered and was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Restaurant patrons were forced to evacuate the nearby Main Line Diner during the restaurant's dinner rush.
Workers in the restaurant told News 12 they were told to hide in the kitchen.
Police are not releasing any other information about the person involved.
