A student in Yonkers is in hot water after getting caught on tape allegedly beating up a substitute teacher, but a relative says the incident was not what it seems.
A fight caught on cellphone video this week shows the 14-year-old student and substitute teacher Ron Santavicca in the hallways of Gorton High School.
The video appears to show the freshman student repeatedly punching Santavicca as Santavicca falls to the ground trying to fight back.
Students have told News 12 that the fight broke out because the student was allegedly not allowed to use the bathroom.
The student's aunt Christine Kalsky says the dispute broke out because of something very different. "He was getting whatever he needs in his book bag and the teacher assumed he was trying to get up and leave the classroom."
That's when Kalsky says Santavicca tried to stop the student from leaving by grabbing him by the neck and even trying to bite his finger.
Kalsky says she does not condone what her nephew did, but she says he is being portrayed to be someone that he is not.
A Gorton High School spokesperson tells News 12 that the fight is under investigation and that the situation has been handled properly.
The student has been suspended from the school until Tuesday. His aunt says the superintendent plans to meet with her to go over the video captured by the school's cameras.
