Yorktown police arrested a registered sex offender Monday for allegedly molesting a young boy who was staying at his house.
Investigators say James Cleary, 45, molested the 11-year-old boy Sunday morning. The victim told police that Cleary fondled his genitals while he was trying to sleep.
Investigators say the boy went on a boating trip with Cleary and members of his family on Saturday, and that his mother gave him permission to sleep at Cleary?s house that night. His mother was not aware of Cleary?s status as a level two sex offender.
In 1999, Cleary was convicted of attempted sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy on Long Island. He is currently charged with endangering the welfare of a child and sexual abuse. Cleary is being held at Westchester County Jail on $25,000 bail and due back in court Tuesday.
