For the past two years on the anniversary of Sept. 11, Immortal Fitness in Pleasantville has honored a fallen hero in a unique way.
The gym created the “Red Bandana Workout” to remember Welles Crowther, better known as “The Man in the Red Bandana.”
Crowther, of Nyack, was an equity trader and volunteer firefighter who is credited with saving at least 12 people before losing his life in the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
His story has appeared in many news stories and documentaries over the years.
The 40-minute workout includes:
Rowing 911 meters
19 burpees to signify Welles’ high school lacrosse number
12 dumbbell front squats for the number of confirmed people he saved
17 American swings for the 17 flights of stairs he repeatedly traveled

Since its inception, the Red Bandana Workout has raised more than $1,000 for the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust, which gives back to youth in the community.
