Westchester families rallied at the federal courthouse in White Plains Friday, calling for the release of six fathers detained by ICE agents who are being held in detention centers thousands of miles away.
The six men, who are undocumented immigrants, have been held in regular prisons in Louisiana and Alabama for months.
Rally organizers say all six men have lived in the U.S. for years, had jobs and no criminal records.
Many at the rally will travel to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to petition federal lawmakers to release the men so that they can fight possible detention or deportation from home, instead of a prison cell.
Among the politicians who will meet with some of the men’s family members next week is Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand, who has been an adamant supporter of immigrant reformation.
