A rally was held in White Plains Saturday to demand the Senate reform the country's gun laws.

The rally was one of the 150 other gun rallies happening across the nation on Saturday.

Organizations including Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety hosted the rallies to pressure lawmakers like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to vote on gun control legislation immediately.

 Democratic Rep. Nita Lowey and state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins came to the rally in White Plains to show their support. 

The demonstrators demanded thorough background checks and red flag laws that allow officials to take guns away from people deemed as a public threat.

Organizers say their concerns about guns aren’t solely about mass shootings, but also domestic violence and suicides by guns.

Barry Graubart, from Moms Demand Action, says an average of 106 people are killed by gun violence every day in the nation. He says those deaths include gun suicide, domestic violence, street violence and mass shootings.

One speaker at the rally shared with the crowd her experience of losing her brother to suicide by gun.

The activists say that if the Senate continues to ignore their outcries, the people will have no choice but to vote the officials out in the next election.
