Temperatures tonight won't be as cold as they have been, but there are snow showers currently moving through our area. The showers won't amount to much, but there may be a coating of up to 1 inch of snow for Litchfield County.
Enjoy the brief break from the harsh winter temperatures on Thursday. Highs will climb into the 40s with sunshine in the afternoon. This won't last very long because a strong cold front will deliver an Arctic blast for Friday night and Saturday. Temperatures could be record-breaking on Saturday.
Confidence is also increasing for a more impactful storm over the weekend.
Today's model guidance is centered on a more northward track with the storm and closer to us (compared to yesterday's forecast). That could mean heavier snow for part of the tristate area, including western Connecticut, but also introduce mixing for southern sections.
Overall, it now looks like a lesser chance of it totally missing us and staying too far south. With a storm track farther north, there is a 70-80% chance of seeing 6 or more inches of snow. The storm track and timing are still uncertain and are subject to change. The worst of the weather may hit Sunday later in the day and extend into Monday.
The Arctic air out ahead of this is serious and dangerous. Intense cold will be late Friday night. Record low maximums are possible on Saturday. Wind chills are back in the 0 to minus 10 degree-zone.
Temperatures thus far for Sunday look to be in the 20s.
A small change in the storm track could dramatically change the forecast. Stay with News 12 - check back with us several times a day as we get more information about how this storm will impact you.
