With five days to go before Election Day, things are heating up in the race for the 40th state Senate District seat.
Republican state Senate candidate Terrence Murphy is demanding an outside investigation to see where all the money in his opponent's coffers is coming from.
Murphy says he's alarmed after reading a report published in the New York Daily News that suggested New York Mayor Bill de Blasio was pressuring developers in the city to make tens of thousands of dollars in campaign donations that ultimately went to Justin Wagner.
Murphy believes the mayor is taking an active role in the race because he wants the Democrats to win back the state Senate, which could prove to be favorable for New York City.
Wagner insists any and all donations he received for this campaign have been legal. He says he never met de Blasio, and he calls Murphy's charges politics as usual.
