Neighbors in a Yonkers community are pushing back over a proposed self-storage facility. It could go up along Central Park Avenue near the corner of Verona Avenue.

"It's ridiculous," says Yonkers resident, Ruddy Jimenez.

The proposed site is right by where Jimenez lives.

He, along with his neighbors, are concerned about the noise a project like this could bring - plus the impact it could have on the hillside that lines their homes.

They say these fears are valid, another storage facility was recently put just a couple hundred feet away by the same wall of rock.

"Banging the rock over and over, you feel it in your home, everything shakes," Jimenez explains.

Some neighbors are wondering how the development could happen, since Yonkers city leaders put a temporary moratorium on these kinds of builds.

"Within that moratorium, there is a clause that says anybody adversely affected by the moratorium is allowed to file for a waiver," says Yonkers City Councilman Anthony Merante.

Councilman Merante says that waiver was granted.

However, he has concerns, too.

Some others in the community support this kind of addition to the area.

"When you have a building that's new construction, first you think of revenue for the city of Yonkers, it employs people. It creates a circle of revenue," says Denis Pierro, who previously lived in the area and now works nearby.

No final decision has been made on this proposed development, it still needs to go through the zoning board.

News 12 reached out to this developer's attorney, but has not heard back.
