Project Worthy aims to save lives of heroin, opioid addicts
There’s a new effort to save the lives of those hooked on heroin in Westchester.
The county is set to kick off its boldest initiative yet Wednesday. The Project Worthy program integrates all of the county’s resources to tackle a heroin crisis that has jumped 200 percent in the past four years. That means that police, parents, teachers, coaches and even clergy will all work together to battle the problem.
County Executive Rob Astorino announced the initiative at his April State of the County address. In the past two years, Astorino says local police officers have saved 133 lives with the overdose drug Narcan.
The kickoff to the initiative will take place Wednesday at the County Center.
