Pride Month celebrations kicked off Saturday at Rye Town Park in Rye.
The raising of the Rainbow flag, a symbol of LGBTQ pride and diversity in the community, capped off the event.
The event took place despite a U.S. State Department global security warning that Americans overseas could be targeted this month at LGBTQ events.
"I think it makes us more determined," said event organizer Amanda Timchak. "Being out here celebrating is more important to the community members who identify."
Danielle Tagger-Epstein, co-founder of the nonprofit organization Pryde agreed.
"I think it's important to let the LGBTQIA community know that we stand with them. There is more that unites us than divides us," she said.
The Pride Flag will continue to fly at Rye Town Park throughout the rest of this month.
