Former President Barack Obama will be honored Thursday with the prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award at the United States Military Academy West Point.

The award recognizes outstanding citizens whose national service and accomplishments embody West Point's motto of "Duty, Honor, Country."

Obama will become the fifth U.S. President to receive this distinction.
