Today marks 1 year since the terrorist group Hamas launched a series of deadly attacks on Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people.
Jewish communities throughout the Hudson Valley spent the weekend commemorating one of Israel's darkest days, with more gatherings planned today. An all-day service is planned at Chabad of Larchmont and Mamaroneck from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Many people, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, attended prayer services at
Temple Israel Center in White Plains on Sunday. The group not only prayed for peace but also for the more than 100 hostages, including Americans, that are being held captive.
As services are being held, police in the Hudson Valley say they have received threats toward synagogues in the area. Although, like other threats made across New York state, investigators say the threats have been deemed not credible. Still, police say they are staying in contact with other law enforcement agencies as well as keeping a close eye and helping with security at Hudson Valley synagogues.
