A power surge pushed more than 150 residents of the Dunbar Heights Housing Complex from their homes and into motels Monday.

According to Con Edison, the power surge blew an electrical transformer and cut out power to the complex. The Peekskill Fire Department hooked up a lighting apparatus outside, which helped Red Cross volunteers as they handed out warm meals.

Residents were asked to sign waivers and temporarily move into motels.

Nikivia Rowe isn't happy about leaving her home.

"I haven't heard a bunch of great things about [motels]," Rowe said. "It's not like home and that's why you pay rent and you pay Con Ed, so you don't have to be moved out like this."

Dunbar Heights residents are no stranger to trouble. A 35-day natural gas outage that left them unable to cook just recently ended.

There's no word on when power will be restored to the complex.
