With scattered power outages and streets littered with downed trees and power lines, getting to the first day of school in parts of Westchester was challenging.
In Eastchester, a long stretch of California Road is still closed five days after Tropical Storm Ernesto hit. California Road is usually heavily traveled, including school buses. Many bus routes were altered to avoid the debris in the streets that has remained since Saturday.
For residents still without power in their homes, getting kids ready for school also proved difficult. However, many seemed to have an upbeat attitude, knowing things will soon be back to normal.
