Poughkeepsie police say a 15-year-old was seriously injured in a shooting that happened Friday afternoon.

According to city police, the incident happened on Smith Street.

Police say they responded to a report of a juvenile injured and found the 15 -year -old with a serious gunshot wound in the leg.

Authorities say a loaded, semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene.

The teenager was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
