A Port Jervis man is facing charges in Pennsylvania for allegedly assaulting 4-year-old twins at a day care.

Kids Play Today in Shohola, Pennsylvania, released a letter to parents Oct. 4 after Marc Erdmann’s arrest. It stated that an incident occurred in July 2023 involving a staff member and two children in their care, and that the day care was not able to reveal any information until now due to investigations being conducted.

According to online court records, the 35-year-old from Port Jervis was charged on Oct. 3 with two counts of reckless endangerment and harassment, and aggravated assault on a victim less than 6 years old.

Pennsylvania state records online for licensed child care providers give a detailed description of the July 7 incident. It states that a facility employee was seen on surveillance video aggressively punching, slapping and shoving two children. It indicates that one child was seen on video being shoved to the floor with the provider’s hand and foot, grabbed and pinned to the wall and roughly let go. According to the description, the child was seen on video slumped on the floor following the assault.

The second child was struck several times in the head on the same date and knocked to the floor from a sitting position, according to online state records. The child was then dragged across the room and shoved backwards to the floor.

The children’s father reached out to News 12 to alert the station to the allegations but did not want to be identified. He said his children suffered black eyes and facial bruising because of the attack.

Kids Play Today didn’t return News 12’s call but issued a comment online saying they’re deeply saddened by the incident and are committed to transparency and safety of the children in their care.

Erdmann was sent to Pike County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail and is due in Pennsylvania Magisterial District Court on Oct. 17. The case is being prosecuted by the Pike County District Attorney’s Office.
