An early morning accident killed a Port Chester man whose vehicle ended up in the Byram River.
Police received calls about the incident around 1:40 a.m., prompting a response to Purdy Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a passenger, 36-year-old Payes Sanchez, of Norwalk, Connecticut, on land.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Juan Garcia-Suchite, was still inside the vehicle, submerged in about 10 feet of water. He was pronounced deceased.
Initial investigations show the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed down Purdy Avenue when it collided with a large boulder at the end of the roadway. The impact caused the vehicle to become airborne, clearing a chain link fence and crashing through trees before coming to a stop in the Byram River.
The police investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic accident.
