Paid Port Chester firefighters whose jobs are being eliminated took their protests to one of their chief's homes on Friday.
The eight firefighters are now on administrative leave and about to lose their jobs for good. Cea Fong, the first female paid firefighter in Port Chester, is ending her career when it's supposed to be beginning.
"This has been my dream since I've been born," she says. "It took me four straight years of testing to get this job."
Fire Chief Edward Quinn, who is a volunteer, would not comment on the rally right outside his door.
The village is expecting to save about $800,000 by running the Port Chester Fire Department with only volunteers. Firefighters say the move is retribution for a complaint the union filed about unsafe conditions at a recent house fire.
Port Chester has a $1 million contract with Rye Brook to keep its firehouse staffed overnight, but paid firefighters have been pulled from there as well.
