Pope Francis confirmed Monday that he will be paying a visit to New York as part of a three-city trip to the United States this fall.
The pope made the announcement on his flight back to Rome from the Philippines.
The Vatican says the pope will be visiting the state in late September. He also plans to speak at the United Nations during his stay.
A spokesperson for St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers says it's too soon to tell if Pope Francis will visit Westchester during his trip. Both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI visited the seminary during their trips to the states.
Many Catholics say they are thrilled to hear of his plans.
The Holy Vicar is also expected to visit the White House and address Congress. His main focus will be participating in a massive rally for families in Philadelphia.
