New
data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found four
wastewater samples with polio in Sullivan County.
Health
officials say the tests date back to June and July and are linked to the case
in Rockland County found earlier this summer.
More wastewater samples have
also been found in Orange County and New York City. County health officials say
your best protection is getting vaccinated.
"Our public health system is quietly working very hard behind the scenes
as it always does, and we need the public to know that we're here to answer
their questions and provide resources," says Nancy McGraw, the Public
Health Director of Sullivan County.
The state Health Department
says Sullivan County's vaccination rate is just over 60% which is below the
statewide average of nearly 80%.
