Police say at least two suspects are wanted in a fatal shooting in Yonkers.
Officials say a 20-year-old man was shot on Lawrence Street around 1 a.m. Saturday. They say the victim was walking on the street when a vehicle pulled up beside him.
They say at least two people fired at him, hitting him once in the torso as he ran into the building.
Officers found him in the lobby of this apartment building and rushed him to the hospital, where he later died.
A makeshift memorial was created by the victim's friends in front of the Lawrence Street building.
Resident Pastor Ruby Thomas spoke with News 12 about this latest act of violence.
“It's really hurtful. I do prison ministry for teens 16 to 18, so it hurts,” he says. “When I see those who come to me, I tell them to try to find something to do, cause the streets aren't easy. So many have lost their lives. I just pray for the best in my community.”
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano told the public that justice will be served.
"The Yonkers police are committed to making sure that we find those responsible for this crime," he says. "We have a tremendous amount of evidence and plan to wrap this up pretty rapidly."
Police have not released the victim's name.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to Yonkers Police Detective Division at (914) 377-7724, or to text the key word YPD plus the tip to 847411.
