A 30-year-old Woodbridge man is facing hate crime charges after allegedly defacing signs that read "We stand with America," police said.

Philip Bachelder is accused of using red spray paint to write words such as "Nazi" and "pedo" on the signs and drawing swastikas on others, according to authorities.

The lawn signs were displayed at the intersection of Johnson and Pease Roads.

A witness reported seeing Bachelder discard spray cans at the scene, police said.

Bachelder was arrested on Thursday and is being charged with intimidation based on bigotry or bias, criminal mischief, simple trespass and disorderly conduct.

He was released on a $10,000 bond.
