Authorities say police shot and injured a knife-wielding woman in Mamaroneck Saturday after a domestic incident at the home left a toddler dead.
Police say they got a 911 call for assistance at a home on Chestnut Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
When they arrived, they say they found a 2-year-old who needed medical treatment. They started life-saving measures on the child, and then searched the home for anyone else who might be inside.
Police say a 28-year-old woman in the home was given numerous verbal commands to show her hands, but they say she didn't comply. That's when police say the woman attacked officers with a knife, injuring two of them. Tasers were then deployed, which police say failed to stop the woman. Police say they opened fire on the woman at that time.
Four officers were taken to the hospital and two were treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The woman remains hospitalized.
It's unclear what had happened to cause the child's death at this time.
The identities of those involved have not been released.
