Police say a body found in a creek in Cortlandt may be that of a Putnam County man who has been missing for three weeks.
Police say a man discovered the body in the water behind his neighbor?s house when he went over for a visit. The man called police and reported the body floating in Lake Peekskill Brook around 3:20 p.m.
State police say the man may have been in the water for as long as a week. They say he was wearing clothing consistent with the missing person, but would not release the name of the man.
The cap the victim was wearing was found 100 feet up a hill and it appears he may have fallen into the creek, according to police. They are awaiting the results of an autopsy for more information.
The death is being ruled a homicide until police find evidence to the contrary.
