New Rochelle High School was placed on lockout today after police received reports of shots being fired in a nearby wooded area.
The lockout was lifted just before 3:30 p.m. and students were dismissed. News 12 has learned that what police thought was gunshots were actually a teenager setting off fireworks.
An announcement just before 12:30 p.m. informed the students about the lockout. They were told no one could leave or enter the building.
New Rochelle and Westchester County police officers searched the 150-acre Nature Study Woods Park and surrounding streets for the source of the sound.
Tracking the sound of the shots led them to a home on Cameron Place.
Police say the sound was from a teen who lived in the house setting off fireworks in his backyard. He will not face any charges.
