An accused repeat shoplifter is now facing harsher consequences after allegedly hitting a grocery store worker in Poughkeepsie.
Police say Shayne Bates assaulted a ShopRite employee who confronted him over stealing.
News 12 is told Bates ran away, but was arrested in a nearby parking lot.
Investigators say this wasn’t Bates’ first time committing a similar crime. They say just last weekend, he was accused of stealing more than $1,400 worth of items from a Stop & Shop on South Road.
Bates now faces robbery charges.
