Police have released surveillance video that captured the moments before they say three people invaded a Pelham home and pistol-whipped an occupant on Sunday.
The invasion occurred at an apartment at 523 Fifth Ave. around 5 p.m.
Police say a 24-year-old man and his friend were inside an apartment watching a movie when the three masked suspects, armed with guns, brutally pistol-whipped the man. He needed stitches for his injuries.
His female friend screamed to alert neighbors while trying to avoid becoming the next victim.
"She threw her phone under the bed to hide it, hid her pocketbook," says Detective John Hynes. "They saw that, assaulted her, punched her once in the head and once in the neck area."
Police say she later refused medical attention.
Investigators say nothing was stolen from the home, but they do not believe the crime was a random act.
Pelham police say the surveillance video shows one of the suspects removing his mask before using a key to get inside the second-floor apartment. Six people live inside the apartment, and the two victims did not know the suspects.
