Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a young couple.

Police believe 23-year-old Joel Diaz Garcia shot his girlfriend, 25-year-old Kristen Kudelka, in the head with a rifle at her parents? home. The victim's family was away on vacation in Florida at the time.

Authorities first found Garcia's body Saturday evening along the shores of the Hudson River. They later found Kudelka's body in an upstairs room of her parents' home.

Neighbors describe Kudelka as an avid horseback rider. Garcia also shared an affinity for horses. He worked as a caretaker at a Dutchess County horse farm.
