State officials are investigating the cause of a Huguenot house fire that resulted in the deaths of three children Monday.
Police say 10-year-old Julia Dorritie and 12-year-old Cassandra Dorrittie died in their home at 106 Peenpack Trail. Devon Fahey, a 12-year-old friend of Cassandra's who was spending the night, was also killed. Carolyn Dorrittie, 44, and her 15-year-old daughter managed to escape.
Capt. Wayne Olson, of the New York State Police, says the fire may have been sparked by a lit candle left unattended near a Halloween decoration display. However, he says considering the heavy damage at the house, it may be impossible to piece together the whole story.
