A Westchester man has been arrested for allegedly posing as a cab driver and attacking a mother and her three children.
Police say Pedro Vargas, of Yonkers, picked up the 26-year-old woman and her kids, ages 1, 3, and 5, from upper Manhattan and drove them to a shelter in Queens where he tried to sexually assault her.
While the woman was trying to escape, officials say he elbowed her 5-year-old in the head and forcibly removed her 3-year-old from the vehicle. The children were treated for minor injuries.
Vargas is facing two felony assault charges and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities say Vargas spent 18 years in prison for kidnapping and robbery. He was sentenced in 1994 and paroled in 2012.
