A crash Thursday in Union Vale left one person dead and another hurt, according to Dutchess County police.

Authorities say the commercial box truck was traveling on Wingdale Mountain Road when the driver lost control going down a hill and then struck some trees.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was hospitalized with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Police believe the crash may have been caused by brake failure. However, an investigation remains ongoing.
