A Yonkers cop is now out of a job for allegedly falsifying information for to get a search warrant.
Officer Neil Vera was fired Tuesday after he and Detective Christian Koch were accused of lying to get a search warrant for an apartment on school street. During the police raid in March, Dario Tena jumped out of a window and died. "After careful review of the facts and circumstances surrounding this case, including the internal ongoing investigation, I felt that was an appropriate decision," says Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner of the move to fire Vera.
The Yonkers police union is vowing to fight for the fired officer. "We feel he deserves his day in court and that that should play out and based on that his status with the job should be determined based on that," says Yonkers PBA President Det. Keith Olsen.
Officer Vera was fired once before, shortly after he was hired in 2007, but then rehired in 2008.
Detective Christian Koch remains suspended without pay.
