Police say three masked men broke into an apartment in Pelham Sunday night and pistol-whipped a man.
The home invasion took place at 523 Fifth Ave. around 5 p.m.
Wtinesses say they saw three men wearing gray hoodies with stocking pulled over their faces burst into the front door of the building and storm into the victim's home.
A family member has identified the victim as 24-year-old Alan Cumberbatch.
Neighbors say six people live in the apartment, including two small children and Cumerbatch's mother. They say only Cumberbatch and a friend were home at the time of the invasion.
His friend, a young woman who asked not to be named, also allegedly took at least one blow to the head.
Cumberbatch was taken to New Rochelle Hospital.
All three suspects had silver and black semi-automatic handguns and fled in an unknown direction, according to police.
Police from neighboring towns have set up along their town borders to maintain a perimeter while the manhunt for the suspects is underway.
It is not known if the attackers took anything from the apartment.
